Overview

Exploratory plots can be helpful in understanding general behavior of data. They should be used as a first step before approaching modeling, and could even uncover useful insights that can be quickly communicated to project teams without extensive effort.

This website is composed of Rmarkdown documents, which could be used as templates for generating exploratory plots. The Rmarkdown documents can be accessed on GitHub.

This website displays suggested plots to pursue when exploring different PK/PD datasets, with a focus on exploring the Dose-Exposure-Response relationship. This site is a collection of exploratory plots and code, and could serve as a checklist of graphs someone might create for certain projects.

Some suggestions may be repetitive, so use your judgment to choose the best plot for your purpose and dataset. These plots are for exploratory benefit, and are not all expected to be included in a final report.

Motivation

PMX modelers are losing time going back and forth to visualize data

  • If we had a checklist of suggested exploratory plots, we could be more efficient in creating these output and not have to go back if we forgot something

PMX modelers can tend to jump to applying mixed effects modeling before considering whether a simple exploratory graph could answer the question

  • Having an exploratory graphs checklist will help focus our initial efforts to ensure that we have tried the simple approach first

We are losing programming resources

  • We need to become more efficient with data requests, data exploration & data checking

Use Cases

  • New recruits – especially entry level or from different backgrounds who are unfamiliar with exploring data
  • New projects – compounds that have never been explored before, what plots should be looked at?
  • Associates re-assigned to a new disease area – unfamiliar with disease specific end points/PD markers
  • Existing project but with a new end point/PD marker, etc.
  • Last minute requests from project team – not enough time for full-blown mixed effects model
